How to form a team

Important considerations

The four most important considerations in the forming a team are developing a philosophy for your team, finding committed players, finding a coach and finding a practice facility.

Develop philosophy

Will it be a participation team where a everyone gets equal playing time or a performance team where playing time must be earned?  If the coach and the players don’t buy into the philosophy of the team it will eventually lead to problem and hard feeling.

Selection of Players

Will you run area wide or local tryout?   Will they be opened tryouts by invitation only? Are tryouts necessary or will you just select your own team?

Purchase a Club Membership

The prices for club membership are Club Level 1 $30, Club Level 2 $60, and Club Level 3 $300.  Visit the web site at www.aausports.org or call the AAU National Headquarters for a Club Membership.

Each athlete and non-athlete (coach, bench personnel, etc.) on your team is required to have an individual AAU membership.  These memberships can be purchased at our web site at www.aausports.org  The prices for individual membership is $12 or $14(addedbenefit) for athletes and $14 or $16 for non=athletes.
